Our purpose, in devising this web site, was to share with you, dear visitor, our enthusiasm for ancient rug aesthetics.

Since eminent writers have examined the technical aspects of the topics, we chose to draw your attention to the beauty and artefacts, convinced as we are that much wisdom goes into beauty and that emotion should be the prime motivation in any rug acquisition.

Brief reflection on art

The essence of Art lies in what is not technical because, from this point of view, the evaluation which is objective corresponds to the negation of the genius of the artist and therefore of Art.

Thus the criteria no longer being subject to objective bases, any evaluation becomes subjective: it is based on the pure feeling of the spectator, on his sensitive perception of the work... « Taste is the  faculty of judging an object or a mode of representation through satisfaction or displeasure in a completely disinterested way.

The object of this satisfaction is called beautiful... » (Kant, Critique of Judgment).

Let us remember that the art of the carpet, which prohibits any figurative representation, is the medium par excellence of abstraction.

The great painters confirm it to us: spirituality in Art,…« it is to spiritualize oneself, therefore to rise in the hierarchy of the arts, to musicalize oneself ».

Mondrian at the same time (1914) discovers in Art a slow growth towards the spiritual. What should be taken as a model are no longer sensitive  beings, but pure geometric forms.

Which does not mean, « for the carpet », that no technique is necessary (spinning the wool, preparing natural colors according to ancestral methods, for example) but for this enturies-old craft it is a radically different « creative » technique, not « real », but completely « symbolic ».
